Reeded oak on every face of the island, with a single slab of Calacatta over the top and glazed oak cabinets above.
One slab, no joins. That was the brief for the worktop and it decided everything else: the island had to be sized to the stone rather than the other way round.
The reeding runs continuously around three sides. Each reed is machined from solid oak and glued up by hand across the face, so the lines carry round the corners without a break.
Above, glazed oak wall cabinets keep the weight off the room. Everything behind the glass is lit on a dimmer, which turns out to be the thing the clients use most in the evening.
“People touch it. Every single person who comes into the room puts a hand on the reeding.”
