A narrow Georgian galley that had been painted white by three previous owners. We went the other way entirely.

Narrow rooms get painted white because everyone is frightened of making them feel smaller. It rarely works: you end up with a corridor that is bright and still a corridor.

We went the other way and put a warm butter yellow on every cabinet, then kept the worktop and the walls pale so the colour reads as warmth rather than weight.

The run is only 3.6 metres. Every millimetre of it is drawer rather than cupboard, because in a galley you cannot stand back far enough to reach into the back of a base unit.

We were braced for a fight about the yellow. Nobody who has walked in since has said anything except that they love it.
